Staying Motivated & Fit During Pregnancy

Let me start by saying—pregnancy is different for everyone and what makes one person feel good can vary so much from another. Since I have been getting a lot of questions about a pregnancy fitness routine, I decided to share what has been working for various ladies.

Start Slow:

The first trimester of pregnancy is infamous for being a fitness deal-breaker. I can’t tell you how many stories I’ve heard of moms who were exercising for one week, then stuck in bed drinking chicken soup and eating salty cracks the next. If you’ve been in this situation, you know the feeling of helplessness and frustration it can cause, especially if you’re trying to keep your fitness level up.  It’s quite normal for everyone to be cautious during the first trimester, miscarriage is so much more common then we realize and on top of our fertility issues we just don’t want to risk anything. You passed that first trimester mark, your doctor will then encourage you to get back into your normal routine.

Find A Friend or Join A Gym:

Curves is one off the best facility that will assist you during your pregnancy. Your coaches will motivate, guide and support you every step of the way! Start slowly, just a 30-minute strength training workout with cardio and some stretching after. As time pass and you will feel more comfortable. It sounds corny but exercising always makes me feel better and brings my energy level back up.

Also try to make it to prenatal yoga classes once a week for a long hour and a half session. It’s great to stretch muscles and always helps you check in with yourself and baby but is not the easiest for you to stay focused in. I know of some mommies to be always had problems staying present in any kind of yoga class, so this has proven to be just as challenging.

Be Patient & Listen To Your Body: 

Pregnancy is no time to try to achieve your fitness goals, but I think maintaining healthy habits is so important. I feel like so much of mommies-to-be’s body changes each and every day so working out has become a great way for them to keep anxiety at bay and maintain some sense of normalcy.

Stay Hydrated: 

Drinking enough water has always been a struggle for me personally, so increasing your intake during pregnancy is even more important. You should try to make sure on the days you are working out to stay extra hydrated before and after plus add in a few more snacks.
